Advanced laparoscopic Course. Islamabad Pakistan:
24,25,26,27,28th April 2016:
This course is organised in collaboration with Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences(PIMS) on 24-28th April 2016. The course will have lectures, practice on simulation boxes and live surgery in operation theatre. The participants will join from all over the country.
Background of International Laparoscopic courses:
Chelsea and Westminster hospital is an established laparoscopy training centre in laparoscopic Gynaecology. We have now organised number of laparoscopy training courses for different level of trainees. Technology is now more common than before and developing countries such as Pakistan are taking up laparoscopic surgery quite fast and there is an immense need to develop essential laparoscopic skills for safe surgery.
Clinical governance and training are the major issues to reduce the risk to patients in this developing stage. Our experience in teaching and training laparoscopic surgery enabled us to liaise with the Pakistan Institute of Medical sciences (University Hospital to develop a 5 day laparoscopy course.
This course is designed for the senior doctors who have the laparoscopic equipment at their hospitals. However as there is no formal training programme, the doctors are taking on their shoulders to learn from their surgical peers or trying it themselves.
This joint venture is a huge step in the right direction to improve the training of the doctors along with uplifting the Chelsea and Westminster profile as an international sponsor for training in developing countries.
These International courses are divided in three groups as:
Basic laparoscopic training:
This three day course is designed for the senior trainees who are now starting to do laparoscopic surgery. This was attended by 14 participants. All trainees were trained through all the basic principles of laparoscopic surgery. This was carried out by the trainees from our last course who have taken up a trainer role.
Intermediate laparoscopic training
This three day course is planned for the trainees who have attended the basic course and have already started the basic laparoscopic procedures in the hospital. The course dealt with all the basic principles, dealing with complications and a live operating session.
Advanced laparoscopic training
This two day course is designed for specialists who have attended our laparoscopy course during the last years and have already been doing diagnostic laparoscopies and laparoscopic ectopic pregnancy. There is more emphasis on energy resources, intracorporeal suturing and also include a full day live surgery to have hands on training.
This is an on-going venture which is in its developing phase and would lead to safe standards of laparoscopy practice in developing countries.
Last year Mr Raza organised two courses. One was in Shifa International University Islamabad Pakistan and second one was a three day Advanced laparoscopic course in Iraq in coordination with RCOG Iraq chapter which was a very successful step in widening the laparoscopic training.
