Primer – An Introduction to the CCMIG Modular Laparoscopic Course
The course is divided into 6 modules covering all aspects of Laparoscopic surgery within the RCOG core curriculum.
Modules
Module 1 – Ergonomics of Laparoscopic Surgery & Risk Assessment
This module takes the trainees through exercises for build these skills. We have designed innovative models for the trainees to use in their Laparoscopic trainers.
Module 2 – Excisional Techniques & Endometriosis Management
The excision of peritoneal disease, adhesiolysis and ureterolysis are some of the vital clinical skills which any Laparoscopic surgeon has to master for advanced Laparoscopic surgery.
Module 3 – Principles of Salpingotomy / Salpingectomy Management of Ectopic Pregnancy
The surgical techniques of salpingectomy and and salpingostomy are addressed in this module.
Module 4 – Ovarian Cystectomy & Retrieval Techniques
We demonstrate how to develop the skills to approach ovarian cystectomy. The correct method of dissection, stripping the cyst from the ovarian walls and then retrieval are taught on innovative models.
Module 5 – Principles of Laparoscopic Suturing- Intracorporeal & Extracorporeal Techniques
Laparoscopic suturing is key element of advanced surgery. We have developed and teach a hierarchical system which breaks knot tying down into to a number of easily completed steps.
Module 6 – Principles of Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy & Myomectomy
These are the most common clinical applications using advanced laparoscopic skills. The techniques are explained in didactic and tutored video sessions.
Laparoscopic Assessment
This is compulsory part of the course and must be attended by all participants to complete the course. It will contain both practical and theoretical tests.
